Bands (Guitar, Bass, Voice, Keyboard, Drums)

The Bands and Jazz Combos at the Music Box are ensembles formed from student auditions, instructor recommendations, or are pre-formed groups and each group is assigned a coach.

Bands have access to specialized pricing and services from our recording studio and production team.

Below are the steps to register:

1. Prepare and record the following audition materials:

• 2 scales (major and/or minor) that show as much of your range as you’ve worked on. Please play as fast as possible, representative of your ability. Any articulation is acceptable, legato being the default.

• Select two contrasting excerpts that are about 1-2 minutes each from different songs, pieces, or movements that best represent your level and musicality. Please choose one that is slow and lyrical, while the other is fast and more agile.

• **Please record videos horizontally and clearly show your face and hands (include feet and pedals for piano). Smartphone quality is acceptable.

2. Fill out the Registration form below and submit your audition video(s):

• We accept Google Drive links, Dropbox links, or unlisted YouTube video links.

• Each audition requirement does not need to be played in one take. However, please combine all videos into one continuous video and write in the Google Form what you are playing in the order that is shown.

• Please make sure that file-sharing links are shared with ensembles@redondobeachmusicbox.com or available to anyone who has access to the link. Let us know if you have any questions regarding video submissions or audition requirements.

• We accept applications and audition videos year-round. Returning students do not need to re-audition, but please let us know if you would like to be assigned a same or different group for the year.

3. Wait to hear from us!

• We will assign you to a group or groups and send you the sheet music.
